| Since
1950, Chaplain Service of the Churches of Virginia, Inc.
has been mailing a Christmas letter and asking churches
to order Christmas stocking coin holders. The Christmas
stocking coin holders are ordered by Sunday School classes,
women's groups, youth groups, mission groups or the church
membership. The coin holders have places for ten (10) quarters
and a place for checks and cash. After the Christmas stocking
coin holders are filled, the church deposits the money and
sends a check to Chaplain Service. Since 1995, $150,000
has been received to support the prison ministry of this
ecumenical non-profit agency. The quarters and dollars have
been used to compensate the Chaplains who serve in the prisons
and juvenile correctional centers in Virginia. |
